Rare Pangolin having a swim!

So we are sitting on the banks of the Letaba river at Shimuwini Bush Camp finishing our sundowner…something goes plop into the water and catches our attention!

It is only natural of course that the first animal that comes to mind is a Pangolin…of course, a swimming Pangolin!!! Yup that’s right, still can’t believe it!!!

This was a rather large, probably male specimen, after a good swim he decided not to cross the river and then came back up the bank towards the camp perimeter electric fence. We alerted the camp manager, Christo, who then decided we should move him away from the electric fence for his safety. What an incredible experience, Africa is just amazing, blessing us with these priceless moments when we least expect it!
